July with Cadillac Freedom Festival - July 4-7

Celebrate our freedom all weekend, see line-up of events and times at Freedom Festival.

The Downtown Cadillac Association is presenting the Fire on Water Military Tribute this year. Tribute forms will be available in downtown member businesses mid June. The Tribute forms fuel the Fire on Water as we pay tribute with three floating bonfires, one for veterans past service & sacrifice, one for current military serving and one for peace and protection for the future. With each bonfire lighting, a peaceful flying lantern is ignited and lost into the night. This is a peaceful tribute along the water front on Lake Cadillac, we invite and encourage all area veterans to partake, and we fully encourage area residents to attend in military silence. We have a tribute ceremony planned that will begin at 10pm, with the bonfires being lit at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to sit peacefully along the area we will enjoy our celebration fireworks the following evening. This ceremony will remind you of ‘what’ and ‘why’ we are celebrating over Independence Day and ensure that our military know that we support them.

A Fire on Water Bonfire vessel will be displayed at the intersection of Mason and Mitchell, one along the Lake Cadillac City Park Shoreline and one at the Cadillac Sands for up to 3 weeks prior to the event to encourage support of our military and this event. This event is the brain-child of Joy Liptak VanDrie, and supported by fellow downtown merchants and citizens. It is ever evolving, if you would like to get involved in the planning of this tribute, please contact Joy at 231-775-0657.

Last Year's Event Description Below...

Downtown Cadillac bustles with activities starting Friday evening!

The weekend events of Storybook Christmas span from Friday evening starting at 5:30pm in the City Park, thru to 4pm on Saturday with Small Business Saturday Holiday Open House in stores downtown:

Friday evening (November 29), in the City Park with carols at 5:30pm, live entertainment on at the pavilion, then as the sun sets, the lighting of the lakefront (1.5 miles) at 6:00pm then welcomes the arrival of Santa to the City Park around 6:15, he is welcomed by the children, who walk him to the Light Lever where he lights the Community Christmas Tree at 6:30. Santa then greets and listens to the children until 8pm and retires to the North Pole to feed the reindeer.

Saturday (November 30), Santa arrives downtown from 11-2pm, to receive children at Blossom Boutique & Cadillac Pharmacy. Downtown businesses host Small Business Saturday Holiday Open House activities, door prize drawings, specials and entertainment throughout the day from 10am – 4pm, many stores downtown will be open after 5pm to assist Holiday shoppers. Also, Saturday, Toy Town presents the 2nd Annual Toy Trot 5k and Elfin 1k, to benefit Toys for Tots. Grab your Santa hat and racingshoes (or walking shoes) for the 5k. Or dress with your favorite ugly sweater and do the Elfin 1k because those silly little elves have several ‘amazing race’ elfin style stops along the way. For info go to www.toytowncadillac.com. The Wexford Public Library will be offering a children’s program and craft. They will also be playing 'Reindeer Hide and Seek' and making Reindeer food to take home from 11-12 p.m. in the Children's Room. Your Sister’s Closet is celebrating its 5th Birthday, offering a gift with purchase special on Saturday, as well as refreshments and free gift wrap.

The Downtown Cadillac Association in cooperation with the Cadillac First Baptist Church and the City of Cadillac, brings this community event to life for enrichment of the Greater Cadillac Area residents.
